Mr Miah, London N8
There are almost 120,000 species of flies living across the world and this country plays host to a large number of those species, some common ones found include the Housefly, Cluster Fly, Horsefly, Fruit fly, Hoverfly and Midges to name a few and all of these flies have one thing in common they can carry a large number of diseases and bacteria which they will spread onto any they land on. Flies spend most of their time hanging around areas of bad sanitation, such as dustbins and rubbish tips, sewers and any decaying faeces. Flies can vary in size and shape and will live an average of 21 days, when flies eat they will take in liquid foods fairly easily however they are not able to digest hard foods however they are able to combat this by regurgitating and then eating the foods again. The lifecycle of the fly starts from the eggs (or better known as maggots) which are usually deposited around rubbish and waste, these eggs will usually take up to 3 days to hatch. The number of eggs deposited can range from 100 to 150 at any one time and they will reach adulthood in up to 3 weeks and will live for around 21 days.
These are the most common flies found around households and they grow up to a quarter of an inch long, they have two clear wings and are a grey colour. The thorax of the fly can be identified as having four dark stripes along. This fly also has two eyes which are made up of around 4,000 smaller eyes to enable them to see in all directions. These flies can live an average of 30 to 60 days.
Fruit flies are identified as being around a quarter of an inch long and yellowish in colour they will live for around 8-10 days, these flies will lay between 700 to 800 eggs and the population increases in the summer months (less in winter). Fruit flies can be found lying in ripe fruits within fields or on rotting fruits around the home.
Cluster flies are slightly larger than the common housefly they are a dull grey colour and have a black marking on the body they also have a golden hair found on the thorax. Cluster flies are usually found around the early to middle of winter and are sometimes known as attic flies. You can easily identify cluster flies as they will buzz slowly and sluggishly around the home in large numbers.
Houseflies are very sensitive to sugar.
Flies are the only insect which has two wings all other insects have four.
Cluster Flies – We carry out a insecticidal fogging treatment (containing permethrin) to the loft space and also we can use insecticide smoke generators where required. A four hour exclusion time is required after this treatment is completed.
House Flies – Fly bag traps, spray treatments to window frames, ceilings and light fittings or domestic electric fly killers. For sprays a four hour exclusion time is required after this treatment is completed. CALL THE FLY CONTROL EXPERTS NOW ON 0800 0854460.

We have compiled a list of the top ten pests within the London region over the last year.
Bed Bugs
Humans and warm blooded animals are the chosen food source for bed bugs and this has become the number 1 pest in London. These insects feed mostly at night when you are asleep causing small, hard bites on the skin. The bite can easily become inflamed and itchy and sometimes causes a blotchy reaction. Bed bugs will then hide away till they are ready for their next meal. They can be very difficult to erradicate - we very often undertake two treatments to make sure they don't return...
