Wasps are here at last!
Millennium pest control had definitely noticed a quite start to the wasp nest season seeing reports of wasp nests and wasp nest removal calls down throughout June compared to previous years.
Reports from our technicians on sites both domestically and commercially had backed this up with very low sightings of wasp activity in the usual hot spots of beer gardens, picnic areas and around bins etc.
In July this trend has been dramatically reversed however - there has been a huge increase in the demand for wasp nest eradication and the wasps season is now well under way.
The dry summer with the occasional showers is now providing perfect conditions for the wasps to thrive and wasp nest removal requests are our most common pest control call throughout London and right across the Home Counties and East Anglia regions.
Wasps are extremely dangerous and can have life threatening effects on human health each year. Each wasp can sting multiple times and in doing so release a chemical which encourages other wasps to swarm and sting. In confined places such as sheds, lofts or roof spaces this can prove deadly. Don't underestimate the potential hazards with wasp nest removal - call the experts and let us deal with the risks.
If you have wasps or any other insects please give us a call and let us help you to eradicate that itch!

Bed Bugs continue to be our most common call out across London with cases on the increase throughout 2010.
At a recent case we got a couple of pictures of the infestation found within the bed frame under the mattress.

Many ideas on the best possible methods to exclude ants from homes often seem to be in vain.
Pest Control London have helped many people reclaim their kitchens, dining rooms and conservatories and enable them to enjoy the summer months with the safe knowledge that their ants have been controlled.
Black Ant colonies are often built in sandy environments and commonly found in patios and lawns. The most difficult ant nests to control are identified in buildings where the nests have not been spotted pre-build. Obviously treating the nests direct in this situation is impossible and therefore a longer term approach or control plan is advised.
The best methods to eradicate black ant infestations are by the use of good hygiene, not leaving drinks, sweet foods and fruits for example around your property, pre-baiting with professional gel baits and placement of a good professional residual insecticide product by use of a Gloria sprayer or dusters.
Regular treatments against ants usually result in good levels of control if not complete eradication.
Black ants are commonly found through the summer periods. They nest in their thousands and are a constant menace in all warps of life including their unwanted attendance in sterile environments such as nursing homes and hospitals.
Pest Control London can advise, treat and put into place eradication programmes so these particular insects need not bother you anymore!

Bed Bugs are quickly becoming Britain's number one pest hate.
If you have incurred the wrath of a light or heavy infestation of bed bugs you will know the increased personal stress and discomfort it can cause with disrupted sleep patterns and painful irritating bites.
The adult bed bug is about a quarter of an inch long and is red brown in colour. Bed bugs feed on human blood and bite marks are typically red lumps which can cause intense itching and are often grouped in a line or cluster. They feed at night when you are asleep and an adult bed bug will feed every 7 to 10 days, but can lie dormant for a year or more without feeding so moving into a property which has remained vacant doesn't mean there aren't bed bugs.
Care should always be taken when staying away from home as bed bugs can easily hitch a ride home with you in clothing or luggage.
Bed bugs originated as a known pest in Asia and overtime have travelled, usually with the help of increased movements of people across continents, to become so widespread that reports of activity range from one side of the globe to the other.
Bed bugs as a pest are also certainly not a ‘new breed'. Indications in history state that bed bugs were a huge pest problem, and almost impossible to control as early as the medieval period. It was not until the introduction of DDT in the 40's and 50's, the first modern insecticide, that insect pests including bed bugs became controlled.
The use of DDT was stopped due to the affects on human health when used. Luckily there is now a whole arson of products and equipment used by many professional pest control companies to help in the on going battle against the blood sucking critter and others of that ilk!
There is no doubt that bed bugs have increased greatly across Britain over the last five years and at the heart of the infestation lays London, our great capital city, which seems to have been hit the worst.
Records by ‘scientific pest experts' reflect substantial year on year increases in London, as do we at Millennium Pest Control with call out rates on the increase throughout this year.
The reasons for the rise are no different really of those that we have already mentioned. Movement of people across continents, multi-national cultures, and the easiness to holiday, home and abroad has increased peoples exposure to bed bugs and they are now well established in the UK. It's also worth knowing that bed bugs survive in warm, dry conditions and if not for our lovely heated houses would probably find it quite uncomfortable in most areas of Britain during the winter periods.
London as a south situated city enjoys pretty humid and warm conditions mainly due to the close proximity of heated buildings and structures adjoining one another and the continuing amounts of traffic on London's seam busting roads. It takes little imagination to see how bed bugs would thrive under these conditions moving from house to house, London borough to London borough until London itself is a huge moving mass of infested properties.
As a pest species, bed bug infestations however heavy or light can still be at times difficult to identify. A few tell tail signs can be seen below:
Bed bug infestations can be very difficult to treat as bed bugs are excellent at finding inaccessible areas to hide - it is very important to treat everything near to the bed paying particular attention to cracks and crevices. Mattresses and soft furnishings more often than not will need to be replaced and new mattresses can be protected with the Protector-Zip mattress protection system which forms a sealed barrier to bed bug penetration. Professional chemicals used will kill the adult bed bugs and bed bug eggs, but often a second treatment is required with reinfection from neighbouring properties common.
We do sell an effective bed bug self treatment spray, the SX - Cyperbug Insecticide Spray, but for larger or well established infections we recommend using professional pest control experts and provide a guaranteed 24 hour response time for homes across London.
Superb product to control rats suitable for indoor or outdoor use. Rats find this product extremely palatable and it is highly recommended.
